Each of the keys in your system feature uniquely designed cuts in their side. These match the sidebar in the cylinder for extra security. When a key with the correct sidebar pattern is inserted it lines up with the unique sidebar etched inside the cylinder. This allows the key to enter and rotate the lock to open it.
